Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, in conjunction with the ECHL, released its 72-game regular season schedule for the 2008-2009 campaign. The schedule once again features a heavy emphasis on divisional play with the Jackals facing North Division foes 62 times, including Elmira's season opener October 17th at First Arena against the Reading Royals in a 7:35 p.m. face-off.
The season opener against the Royals will be a rematch from the 2008 Kelly Cup playoffs and renews what was a bitter rivalry during the Jackals inaugural season in the ECHL.
Elmira will face 12 different opponents in the coming season including six from last year's North Division (Cincinnati, Dayton, Johnstown, Reading, Trenton and Wheeling). The Jackals have six non-divisional foes slated for 2008-2009. Four of the six (Augusta, Charlotte, Florida and Idaho) will be facing off against the Jackals for the first time in the club's brief history with Gwinnett and South Carolina appearing on Elmira's schedule for a second consecutive year.
Of the first-time opponents appearing on the schedule, Augusta, Florida and Idaho will visit First Arena giving Jackals fans some variety in the club's 36 home ice dates.
Other highlighted home dates on the Jackals' schedule include a second season with a Halloween date as Idaho invades for a Friday night battle on October 31st, a Boxing Day match against Johnstown on December 26th, New Year's Eve Wednesday, December 31st, against Dayton with a post-game party to follow in the Recreation Rink, St. Patrick's Night Tuesday, March 17th, and the home and regular season finale Wednesday, April 1st, both against Reading.
The home portion of the schedule features 28 of the 36 dates falling on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Fridays at First Arena will be the busiest night with 14 games followed by 11 Saturdays. There are five Wednesdays slated and the club will host three Wednesday and three Sunday tilts.
