
Sea Wolves Announce 2008-09 Regular Season Schedule

BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves on Wednesday announced the schedule of games for the 2008-09 ECHL Regular Season.
Mississippi will begin it's 11th season on the ice and 13th season as a member of the ECHL on October 17 at Pensacola. The season-opening road trip will continue on to Gwinnett, where the Sea Wolves will face the Gladiators on October 18.
The Sea Wolves then return for an eight-game home stand, their longest of the season, starting with a three-games-in-three-nights series against the Charlotte Checkers on October 24, 25, and 26.
Wheeling will visit the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the first time when the Sea Wolves host the Nailers on November 7 and 8. Cincinnati will also make their first-ever visit on February 6 and 8. Visits to Johnstown on January 28 and 30 and Wheeling on January 31 and February 1 mark the Sea Wolves only trip outside of the South Division this season.
The longest string of road games in the 2008-09 season surrounds the Christmas break, a nine-game stretch that will see the Sea Wolves visit Charlotte on December 19 and Augusta on December 20, Charlotte again on December 27, South Carolina on December 28, Gwinnett on December 29, South Carolina on December 31, Augusta on January 2, and Florida on January 9 and 10.
Breaking down the schedule by opponent, Mississippi will host Augusta on December 4, 5, 6, and 13, and again on March 10, while traveling to face the Lynx on November 22, December 20, January 2, and February 12 and 28. The Sea Wolves open their home schedule against the Charlotte Checkers on October 24, 25, and 25, and Charlotte will return for a pair of games at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on February 13 and 14, and the Sea Wolves visit Charlotte November 20, December 19 and 27, and March 1, 26, and 28.
Florida will visit Mississippi December 16 and 17, February 18, and March 13 and 14, while the Sea Wolves will travel down to face the Everblades on January 9 and 10, March 6 and 7, and April 3 and 4. The Gwinnett Gladiators will make six trips to the Gulf Coast, on November 5 and 13, December 10, February 10, and March 4 and 8.
The I-10 rivalry will be renewed on opening night as the Sea Wolves visit Pensacola on October 17, November 25, December 9, February 17, and March 20 and 22, while the Pilots will fly in on November 16 and 27, February 3, 20, and 21, and March 21.
Mississippi will host the South Carolina Stingrays on November 28 and 29 and January 23 and 25, and the Pack will travel up to face the Rays on November 21, December 28 and 31, February 27, and March 29.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 24 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Nineteen of the 24 teams have played at least five years in their current city.
The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans.
The Premier 'AA' Hockey League welcomed 3,756,191 fans, marking the fifth straight season and the 11th time in the last 12 years that it has exceeded 3.75 million fans. The 51 sold out crowds are the most in the last five seasons and mark the fourth time in the last five years that the ECHL has had at least 40 sellouts.
The conference and division alignments and the format for the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined and approved at a later date by the ECHL Board of Governors.
