Salmon Kings Strike Down Roadrunners At Home

Victoria, BC - The first game of a two-game set between the Victoria Salmon Kings and the Phoenix Roadrunners took place on Friday at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria. Goaltender Jonathon Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Roadrunners countered with Craig Kowalski.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first period as 4,590 fans saw a goaltending battle. The Roadrunners' had the best opportunity to score on a 5-on-3 power play, but Boutin denied Phoenix with several acrobatic saves. With 59.9 seconds left Boutin stole the show again with a brilliant glove save one a Phoenix breakaway. The game was scoreless after the first period.
The Kings were first to score in when Darryl Lloyd feathered a pass between two Phoenix defenders onto Curtis Billsten's stick. Billsten made no mistake and deflected the puck to finish the pretty play. Less than a minute later the Kings struck again when Wes Goldie capitalized on the power play, netting his eighth goal of the season and the 500th point of his professional career. In a pure goal scorer's goal, Goldie roofed the puck up and over Craig Kowalski.
The Roadrunners jumped back in the game in the third, with a breakaway goal by Daniel Sisca at 2:13. Sisca slid the puck past Boutin's left toe after a feed from linemate Colin Sinclair. The Roadrunners continued to apply pressure midway through the third in an effort to tie the game, but the Kings held them at bay. The Salmon Kings notched their second power play goal when Olivier Filion put the puck past Craig Kowalski after a feed from Dan Gendur. The Kings added an insurance marker at 18:41, when Olivier Filion scored his second goal of the game. Travis Ramsey and Wes Goldie assisted on the goal. That would finish the scoring for the night. Salmon Kings 4 Phoenix 1.
Victoria went 2/6= 33.3% on the power play and Phoenix ended 0/4= 0%. The Salmon Kings outscored the Roadrunners 37/34.
