Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators knocked off the Hartford Yard Goats 5-3 Saturday night at FNB Field. The Senators evened the series with six strong innings from Luis Reyes and a pair of home runs by Dan Gamache and Yadiel Hernandez.
After Hartford starter Jesus Tinoco allowed a Daniel Johnson double and Yadiel Hernandez walk to open up the first, Dan Gamache put the Senators on the board with a three-run home run to left, his first of the season.
"Dan shifted the momentum for us right out of the gate," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "Any time you can bunch runs together, especially early, you can knock the wind out of the starter right out of the gate. I'll take runs any way we can get them however I sure do like them when we get them in bunches."
Senators starter Luis Reyes tossed four scoreless innings before Hartford put a run on the board in the fifth on an RBI single by Brendan Rodgers.
Reyes (2-2) allowed just the lone run on four hits while striking out three and walking none across six innings. The right-hander tossed his second consecutive quality start.
"He's realized that what he did (earlier in the season) is not going to work. His last two starts he's shown me some fight. He's continuing to learn each time out," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "I'm really happy for him. It's not going to be easy all the time, but you have to keep fighting and that's what he did tonight. I think he's learning how good he can actually be if he can throw the ball over the plate."
The Senators padded the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Hernandez hit his second home run in as many night, this time a two-run shot into the left-field stands, his team-leading fourth of the season.
Tinoco (3-2) surrendered all five runs along with eight hits over six innings.
Hartford scored single runs in the eighth and ninth but Roman Mendez was able to close the game with no further damage to capture his first save.
Johnson and Hernandez led the Senators with a pair of hits while Gamache paced the club with three RBI all on his first inning home run.
The Senators and Yard Goats play the rubber match of the three-game series Wednesday morning at FNB Field. Wirkin Estevez starts for the Senators while the Yard Goats counter with starter Peter Lambert. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at FNB Field.
