FREDERICK, MD -The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (15-12) scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to beat the Frederick Keys (14-13) 4-3 on Wednesday in the final game of a midweek series at Nymeo Field. Trent Giambrone and Daniel Spingola each homered in the Pelicans win.

The Keys struck first in the second inning off of Pelicans starter Adbert Alzolay. Ademar Rifaela singled to lead off the inning, and came around to score on a Josh Hart single to right field. Stuart Levy followed with a double to deep center field, scoring Hart from first base and giving the Keys a 2-0 lead. After a Ricardo Andujar walk and a Stevie Wilkerson strikeout, Drew Turbin worked a walk to load the bases, knocking Alzolay out of the game. Casey Bloomquist came in, and got Ryan Mountcastle to line out to the second baseman, ending the inning. Bloomquist retired all 10 Keys he faced in the ballgame.

The score remained 2-0 until the fifth inning, when the Pelicans finally got to Keys starter Ofelky Peralta. The 20-year-old began the game throwing four perfect innings, but gave up a leadoff single to Eddy Martinez. Following a walk, Peralta struck out the next two Pelicans, and was one strike away from getting out of the inning. The Keys righty then hit Adonis Paula to load the bases, and Robert Garcia plated two with a single to center field, tying up the ballgame.

Myrtle Beach would add their final two runs in the sixth inning. Trent Giambrone hit his third homer of the year to left field, and Daniel Spingola launched a big fly of his own two batters later, pushing the lead to 4-2.

Frederick would get one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Hart earned his second RBI of the game with a single, pulling the Keys to within a run, but that would be the last of the scoring for either team.

The Keys threatened in the bottom of the ninth against Pelicans reliever Craig Brooks. Hart led off with a walk, and eventually moved up to third with only one out. Brooks would strand Hart there, getting both Austin Hays and Wilkerson to strike out, securing the 4-3 win.

Peralta (0-1) took the loss, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Bloomquist (2-2) picked up the win for the Pelicans in his perfect 3.1 innings of relief. Mitch Horacek had his longest outing of the year for the Keys, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing just one batter to reach base.

The Keys head down to Zebulon, N.C. to face the Carolina Mudcats for four games. Keegan Akin (1-2, 5.85) gets the ball in game one for the Keys. He will face Mudcats righty Corbin Burnes (1-0, 1.65). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 1450 AM The Source, frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app. For tickets fans call the team at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
