Langhamer Named C/ECHL Goaltender of the Week
December 1, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(PRINCETON, NJ) - The ECHL, the "Premier 'AA' Hockey League", announced today that Rapid City Rush rookie goaltender, Marek Langhamer, has earned CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors for the week spanning November 23rd-November 29th. He becomes the first goaltender in Rush history to receive the weekly recognition from the league for stellar goaltending.
"Marek is certainly deserving of this recognition. He was outstanding in both games and instrumental in our two victories against Idaho," said Rush Head Coach and GM, Joe Ferras. "Langer has adapted to the pro game very quickly, and his work ethic and preparation are second to none. He has given us a chance to win on a nightly basis."
Last week, Langhamer made two starts against the Idaho Steelheads and earned the win in both, stopping 45 of 46 shots in a 4-1 win on Wednesday night and stoning an extra 33 of 34 shots faced in a 3-1 victory on Saturday night. In total, Langhamer stopped all but 2 of 80 shots faced for a save percentage of .975 and sported a goals-against average of 1.00: statistics that were the highest and lowest, respectively, of all ECHL goaltenders with a minimum of two starts last week. Additionally, from his first goal allowed on Wednesday night to his final goal allowed on Saturday night, the 21 year-old native of Moravska Trebova, Czech Republic, had streak of 100:15 in which he did not allow a goal.
This season, the former draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Draft (7th Round-#184) has made 5 starts for the Rush, going 3-1-1 with a 2.16 GAA and a .944 SV%. Prior to playing professionally, Langhamer suited up in 120 games for the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers. Over four years with the club, he boasted a 68-42-7 overall record with six shutouts, a 2.86 GAA and a .905 SV%.
