Mallards Outlast Cyclones in Shootout

December 1, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Sam Warning scored the only goal of the shootout and Brody Hoffman turned aside all three Cincinnati Cyclone shooters after making 27 saves in regulation and overtime as the Quad City Mallards (12-7-3) claimed a 2-1 shootout victory over the host Cyclones (10-7-4) Tuesday night.

With the win the Mallards opened up a three-point lead over the second place Cyclones atop the ECHL's Midwest Division, extended their winning streak to four games and halted an eight-game road winless streak.

Warning tucked the winning goal between Cincinnati goaltender Brad Thiessen's pads in the second round of the shootout.

It was the Cyclones who had forced the game to overtime and, as it proved, the shootout after Cincinnati's Peter Quenneville tied the score at one at 13:07 of the third period in a goalmouth scramble.

The Cyclones were forced to battle back after Austin Coldwell's power play blast from the right wing circle broke a scoreless deadlock with just 32 seconds left in the second period.

The Mallards return to action on the road Sunday evening against the Evansville IceMen. The Mallards next play at home Friday, December 18 at 7:05 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards winter caps courtesy of KWQC-TV6. December 18 also brings the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X and MetroLINK College Night.
