Cougars Close Road Trip with Double Header

Appleton, Wisconsin - The Kane County Cougars and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers each won a game a piece in a double header on Sunday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin won game one, 4-3, but the Cougars rebounded to win game two, 8-3.

In game one, the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Yoel Yanqui started the frame with a bunt single. The next batter, Renae Martinez, doubled to center field, scoring Yanqui. Ernie De La Trinidad followed with a single. Yan Sanchez's base knock scored Martinez to make it 2-0. In the fifth, Gabriel Maciel singled and advanced to third on a throwing error by Wisconsin right fielder Tristen Lutz. Maciel scored on a wild pitch. Wisconsin cut into the lead in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Payton Henry. In the Timber Rattlers final at-bat in the seventh, Nick Roscetti led off the inning by reaching on an error. Gabriel Garcia followed with a single and Tristen Lutz walked to load the bases. Gilbert Lara's sacrifice fly tied the game. Devin Hairston's single walked it off for Wisconsin.

Cougar starter Mack Lemieux got no decision after six innings of two-run, four-hit ball. Matt Brill (4-1) took the loss for the Cougars, retiring one batter in the seventh and allowing two runs on two hits. Gabe Friese (2-3) picked up the win for Wisconsin after hurling a shutout seventh inning.

In game two, the Cougars capitalized for four fourth inning runs. Jancarlos Cintron hit a two-run homer. Jazz Chisholm collected an RBI double. Renae Martinez drove in a run with a single. Ernie De La Trinidad gave the Cougars a 6-0 advantage with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Wisconsin clawed back for three runs in the fifth. Devin Hairston's RBI single made it 6-1. Trevor Morrison plated two runs with a double, cutting the Cougar lead to 6-3. Joey Rose's RBI triple in the sixth and Ryan Tufts' bases-load walk in the seventh accounted for the final two Cougar runs.

Breckin Williams (2-3) earned the game two victory with 1.1 innings of no-run baseball. Alec Bettinger (4-4) was handed the loss, surrendering four runs on six hits over four innings.

The Cougars get an off day on Monday before opening a three-game homestand with the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. As part of Taco Tuesday, tacos and margaritas are half-priced. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
