Charge Nab Road Win in Fort Wayne

The Canton Charge (13-13), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (12-13), 106-101, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Thursday night.

Canton's Michael Dunigan led the team with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks in 30 minutes. Quinn Cook supplied 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 35 minutes. John Holland added 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Nick Minnerath came off the bench to score 14 points and grab seven boards in 31 minutes for the Charge.

The Mad Ants led for the entire first half, bolstered by a first quarter shooting effort that saw them hit 14-of-20 shots (70%) and pull ahead for a 31-28 lead. Canton closed the gap in the second by limiting second chances through 14 team rebounds, and edged closer to trail just 58-54 at intermission.

The Charge and their fifth-ranked scoring defense in the D-League buckled down in the third quarter to force five turnovers and limit the Mad Ants to 22 points on 6-of-20 shooting (30%). Canton took advantage of high percentage opportunities in the paint, outscoring Fort Wayne 16-4 from close range and pulled ahead for an 81-80 lead heading into the fourth.

The Charge led by as many as 12 in the fourth and held off the home team for the entire quarter en route to their third win in Fort Wayne in 11 tries over the history of the franchise. John Lucas III paced the Mad Ants with 26 points on 9-of-19 shooting in 40 minutes. C.J. Fair posted a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds in 43 minutes for the hosts.

Canton stays in Central Division play with a matchup at the Iowa Energy (Memphis Grizzlies affiliate) on Saturday, January 30th at 8:00 p.m. The Charge return home to the Civic Center on Tuesday, February 9th at 7:00 p.m. against the Grand Rapids Drive (Detroit Pistons affiliate).
