Bees Drop Second Straight to Cougars

Geneva, IL- The Burlington Bees (20-30) once again left the tying run on base in the ninth, losing 4-3 to the Kane County Cougars (29-22) on Wednesday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field.

For the second straight night, the Burlington Bees took the lead first. Jahmai Jones walked with one out in the third inning and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Brennon Lund grounded a two-out single into right field, scoring Jones, giving the Bees the lead.

The Kane County Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Adam Walton drew a walk and then moved to third when Anfernee Grier reached on a two-out error. Marcus Wilson then served a single into right field, scoring Walton, tying the game at one.

Ramon Hernandez led off the fourth inning with a single and moved to third on consecutive groundouts. Hernandez then came home to score on a wild pitch, giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Kane County added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars started the inning with back-to-back doubles from Mark Karaviotis and Ramon Hernandez. Jose Herrera then singled in the pair, upping the Kane County lead to 4-1.

Just like the night prior, the Bees' ninth inning rally fell short. Mario Sanjur started the inning with a single up the middle. With one out, Jahmai Jones reached on an error, putting runners at second and third. Brennon Lund lined a single to left, his fourth hit of the game, scoring both Sanjur and Jones to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Bees would leave the tying run at third, losing their second straight.

Kane County starter Sam McWilliams (6-2) earned the win while Joe Gatto (2-5) was charged with the loss. Tommy Eveld (10) picked up the save. The Bees and the Cougars finish the series on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. as Erik Manoah makes the start for the Bees against Mack Lemieux for Kane County at Northwestern Medicine Field.

NOTES: Brennon Lund picked up his first four hit game of the season. Lunds four hit game was the Bees' second of the season. Only the third time this season the Bees lost a game in which they outhit their opponent. The Bees are now 11-8 when scoring first.
