AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs (18-20), presented by SWBC, defeated the Long Island Nets (14-25), 95-87, at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park Friday evening.
On assignment from San Antonio, Bryn Forbes led Austin with 21 points (9-17 FG, 1-1 FT) and 2 rebounds in 30 minutes. Cory Jefferson recorded his 16th double-double of the season with 19 points (6-12 FG, 7-8 FT) and 16 rebounds in 32 minutes, while Charles Garcia also recorded a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes.
Austin started the game strong on a 11-0 run in the first four minutes, never allowing the Nets to get closer than six points in the first quarter and going up by as many as 16. The Nets started their comeback campaign with a 12-2 run in the beginning of the second quarter. Long Island tied the game at 39 halfway through the second on a three-point shot by Trahson Burrell. The rest of the half was back and forth with six lead changes and three ties. Austin was able to come out on top as they entered halftime up by five (55-51).
Austin opened the third quarter with a 15-4 run to put them up by 15 in the first five minutes. They established their biggest lead of the game of 20 points with three minutes left in the third. The Spurs stayed up for the duration of the contest.
For the Nets, Cliff Alexander recorded a double-double off the bench with 23 points and 16 rebounds in 30 minutes, while Burrell and Boris Diallo finished with 13 points each.
