AFL Veteran Puleri Signs With Buffalo

(BUFFALO, NY)- The Buffalo Destroyers announced today they have signed veteran Arena Football League QB Charles Puleri.

Puleri (6-1, 200, New Mexico State) was in camp with the Colorado Crush this season and has played six seasons in the AFL for the Miami Hooters (1995), Texas Terror (1996), Iowa Barnstormers (1997-98), New Jersey Red Dogs (1999) and Detroit Fury (2002). He has thrown for 1,547 yards 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in the AFL. He was the first ever draft pick of the New York/New Jersey Hitmen of the XFL in 2001. He began his professional career with the Sacramento Goldminers of the Canadian Football League in 1993, where he played two seasons before moving to the AFL. He has also spent time with the London Monarchs of NFL Europe in 1997 and was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys in 2000.

In other roster moves, the team released OL/DL Hardy Mitchell and waived QB Matt D'Orazio. QB/WR/LB Kevin Mason and OL/DL Jon Michals were signed back to the practice squad. Mason will travel with the team this weekend and suit up as the emergency quarterback.

Mitchell appeared in six games this season recording nine tackles, two for loss, two quarterback hurries and one sack. Mitchell had a solid 2002 season with the Destroyers notching career highs with 12 tackles, two sacks and two pass breakups.

Buffalo heads down south to face the Orlando Predators Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the TD Waterhouse Centre. The game will be televised on the Empire Sports Network. The game will be simulcast on the Destroyers Radio Network as well.

The Destroyers return home Saturday, April 26 to host the Indiana Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. at the HSBC Arena.
