POTEETE GOING FOR 1000: Bossier City QB SHERARD POTEETE rushed for 74 yards and four touchdowns in his teams 72-58 win over Peoria on Friday night. For his career, Poteete is the af2's all-time leader in rushing attempts (222), yards gained (755) and touchdowns (51). Poteete can become the af2's first 1,000-yard rusher if he gets 245 more yards. Last season he averaged around 25 yards a game, meaning it would take six more games for him to get to 1,000. His 74-yard output from Friday was his single game career high.

MASON BUILDING A SOLID FOUNDATION: WR/DB NORMAN MASON has wasted no time adjusting to his new digs in Louisville. The former Cape Fear Wildcat tied a team record with four touchdowns in the Fire's 36-25 win over the expansion Cincinnati Swarm in Week 1. In that game Mason caught three strikes and returned an interception for the other score. In Week 2, Mason took back two kick returns for touchdowns, resulting in the only two scores of the game for Louisville. His efforts secured him Week 2 Ironman of the Week honors.
THE BIG '5-0': In the high-scoring sport of Arena Football, reaching the 50-point mark typically serves as a good indicator of team success. In 2002, teams went 156-39 (80 percent) when they scored 50 or more points in a game. Whereas, they went 116-233 (33 percent) when they didn't get 50 points. In Week 2, eight teams broke the 50-point barrier, going 6-2. Teams under 50 points went 5-9 in Week 2. For the season, teams that score better than 50 are 7-2, while teams under 50 have gone 9-14. Below is a breakdown:

THE CHASE FOR 500 POINTS: WAYNE THOMAS (606 career points) is the only player in af2 history to reach 500 points scored in his career. This season a few more players may join that list. Tulsa's MITCH ALLNER should be the first to do it, as he is just 10 points away after scoring 12 points in the season opener at Peoria last week. Below is a breakdown of the active players looking to join the 500 club.
Name/Team Points Pts. Needed Wayne Thomas (BIR, 2000-02) 606 -
Mitch Allner, Tulsa 490 10
Lennie Johnson, Arkansas 466 34
James Dickerson, Columbus 452 48
Xavier Patterson, Ten. Valley 450 50

TOP DOG: A season opening win over the Green Bay Blizzard gave Macon head coach KEVIN PORTER his 32nd regular season win as an af2 head coach. He is now tied with Richmond Speed head coach RICHARD DAVIS, who also has 32.
TULSA'S SKIP FOSTER and Birmingham's BOBBY HUMPHREY are two other active af2 coaches also closing in on the all-time lead. Foster's regular season record of 27-5 (.844) makes him the coach with best all-time winning percentage among active af2 head coaches. Below is a breakdown of the all-time regular season wins leaders among af2 head coaches.
Head Coach Season Record PCT.
Richard Davis, Richmond Fourth 32-12 .727
Kevin Porter, Macon Fourth 32-17 .653
Bobby Humphrey, Birmingham Fourth 31-18 .633
Skip Foster, Tulsa Third 27-5 .844
HAPPY 50th: This week Birmingham head coach BOBBY HUMPHREY and Macon head coach KEVIN PORTER will be coaching in their 50th regular season af2 game. They are the only two head coaches in af2 history to coach as many games.
WHO NEEDS PASSING? Evidentially not the Hawaiian Islanders. In the Islanders' short history, they are 6-2 when the team rushes for 50 or more yards. In last weekend's 53-52 win over Quad City, the team got 44 yards from NAI VOTOA, 22 from DARNELL ARCENEAUX and eight from CHRIS PAOGOFIE for a total of 74 yards.
SWEET REVENGE: Columbus kicker TOMMY ROBINSON was cut by the Memphis Xplorers last year, but then got the best possible revenge by kicking the game-winning PAT with no time remaining in the Wardogs' 26-25 win over the Xplorers this past Saturday.
HANGING WITH MR. COOPER: Macon WR/LB MIACAH COOPER shined in his first start with the Macon Knights last week against Green Bay. Cooper was named the Game MVP after turning in a huge performance on both sides of the ball. On offense he led the Knights receivers with six catches for 62 yards and one TD. Cooper also recorded 5.5 tackles and scored on a 40-yard interception return to give the Knights their first TD of the game.
A STRONG LEG TO STAND ON: Despite the 53-52 loss to the Hawaiian Islanders in Week 2, Steamwheelers' QB TONY ZIMMERMAN was all but flawless in the game. Zimmerman was 21-of-38 passing, throwing for 265 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. He was only sacked once and rushed two yards for a score. This was Zimmerman's first game back since breaking his leg last season, seven games into the year.
HARVEY'S CONQUEST: The Richmond Speed travel to Albany to face the Conquest for the second straight week. This will be the fourth meeting between the clubs. Speed WR/DB KEVIN HARVEY has played in two of those games, earning Ironman of the Game honors in both contests. Overall he has amassed 559 yards on 19 receptions, run eleven times for 36 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Despite Harvey's exceptional play, the Speed is 1-2 in the previous three games against the Conquest.
TWISTERS GO FOR THE RECORD BOOKS: The Arkansas Twisters are looking to get into the record book as they play their first home game this Saturday, but it is not the af2 record book they are looking to re-write. Rather, they hope to get in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest group "YMCA" dance. The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes 13,588 people as the largest group YMCA dance, set at a minor league baseball game in Omaha, Nebraska. The Twisters goal on April 12, is to put Arkansas in the Guinness book breaking the world mark. The Twisters have had two sellouts in their history with more than 16,000 fans in attendance. A sell out for the home opener will guarantee Arkansas football fans their place in the record books.
A NOTE-WORTHY ACHEIVEMENT: Tennessee Valley WR/DB REGGIE WORTHY caught five passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns in the Vipers' 41-32 win at Florida. He now has 198 yards rushing, 980 yards receiving and is tied for second in Viper history with 22 touchdown receptions. He needs just two yards rushing and 20 receiving to become the first Viper to have 200 yards rushing and 1,000 receiving.
HOW QUICKLY THINGS CHANGE: The Louisville Fire, Mohegan Wolves, Columbus Wardogs and Greensboro Prowlers all finished with four or less wins in 2002. Through two weeks of this early season, the teams are a combined 4-1 (Louisville 1-1, Mohegan 1-0, Columbus 1-0, Greensboro 1-0).
