Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, March 22, 2015 - The Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Delaware 87ers, 124-120, in overtime on Sunday at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Six Blue players scored in double figures, including a 29-point performance from Frank Gaines that featured 24 points in the second half on 10-of-13 shooting.
Dwight Buycks scored 17 points while totaling seven rebounds and nine assists. Maurice Sutton tallied 17 points and finished a rebound short of double-double while Semaj Christon notched 16 points and nine assists. Josh Huestis produced 12 points and seven boards and Rodney Williams scored 13 points off the bench.
Oklahoma City began the night with a 12-0 run and shot 52.5 percent in the first half to hold a 51-44 advantage through 24 minutes. Gaines opened the third quarter by lighting up 13 points in the first four and a half minutes. The Blue outpaced Delaware 35-28 in the frame and took an 86-72 lead into the fourth.
Delaware stormed back in the final regulation period, tying the game for the first time at 112 with a minute to go. Each team's defense locked its opponent down and forced a three-minute overtime period. The Blue jumped out to a six point lead in OT before holding on thanks to Buycks shooting 4-for-4 at the foul line in the final 12 seconds.
The Blue (25-20) distributed 31 assists (second most this season) and shot 48.9 percent from the field.
"We've emphasized ball movement from day one," Daigneault said. "There are times this season where it wasn't very good, especially early on. Right now we have a group that understands there's a lot of talent in the room and have really bought in to helping each other maximize their strengths and their potential. When you do that and you play team basketball, good things happen. Thirty-one assists is evidence of that. It's a staple of how we want to play."
Jordan McRae led Delaware (19-25) with 39 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.
The Blue is back in action on Wednesday when it begins a three game road trip by facing the Los Angeles D-Fenders in California. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
