HIDALGO, Texas, March 15, 2015 - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers rallied to beat the Santa Cruz Warriors this afternoon, outscoring them by 13 points over the final 3 minutes, 49 seconds to secure a 131-125 win at State Farm Arena.
The Vipers improved to 23-18 and remained ahead of Oklahoma City for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West. The Warriors fell to 30-14.
Travis Bader scored 35 points to lead the Vipers, hitting 7-of-11 3-pointers. Glen Rice Jr. and Tony Bishop Jr. added 19 points apiece. Jarvis Threatt finished with 18 points, 12 from the free-throw line. Mychel Thompson led Santa Cruz with 28 points. Golden State Warriors assignee James Michael McAdoo added 25.
The Vipers led 81-75 at halftime before the Warriors outscored them 27-19 in the third quarter. Santa Cruz led 122-114 with 3:49 left, but the Vipers stormed back. Bishop and Rice contributed big shots, and Houston Rockets assignee Clint Capela drew a charge, got a block and a steal in the final 90 seconds to keep Santa Cruz at bay.
Rio Grande Valley embarks on a two-game road trip beginning Tuesday, March 17 at Reno at 9 p.m. (CT). Then, the Vipers play at Bakersfield on Thursday, March 19 at 9 p.m. (CT), before returning home Saturday, March to host Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. (CT) at State Farm Arena.
