
Santa Cruz Falls Short in Fourth Quarter to Vipers

HIDALGO, Tex. - The Santa Cruz Warriors were defeated by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 131-125 Sunday, marking the team's first loss since the February 17th road game against the Oklahoma City Blue.
Mychel Thompson led Santa Cruz with 28 points, while James Michael McAdoo, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors added 25.
The Vipers were paced by Travis Bader, who scored a career-high of 35 points, hitting 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. Glen Rice Jr. and Tony Bishop Jr. added 19 points apiece, while Jarvis Threatt finished with 18 points.
The Warriors trailed the Vipers by six points heading into the break, after a tightly-contested first half. Santa Cruz would fight back in the third quarter to outscore Rio Grande Valley 27-19 to enter the final frame on top.
Santa Cruz led 122-114 with 3:49 left, but the Vipers would rally to steal the fourth quarter. Tony Bishop and Glen Rice Jr. boosted the Vipers with a series a momentum-swinging shots, and Houston Rockets assignee Clint Capela would draw a charge, get a block, and then a steal in the final 90 seconds to keep Santa Cruz at bay.
The Santa Cruz Warriors return home to Kaiser Permanente Arena to face the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Friday, tipping off at 7:00 p.m. PST.
