Energy Win Final Game of Season Series

Erie, Pennsylvania, Saturday, February 28, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks (15-22) were defeated by the Iowa Energy (18-17) 96-92 in the first of five consecutive home games for Erie. The BayHawks had a chance to tie the game with under 5 seconds left, but the attempt missed. Iowa's Kalin Lucas was too much for Erie tonight as he scored a game-high 31 points. With the win tonight, the Iowa Energy earned their first victory versus Erie in the four-game season series.

The Energy used a 9-0 run to take a five-point advantage in the early going of the first quarter. Erie would answer with five straight before Curry went down with an apparent shoulder injury keep him out until the beginning of the second quarter. Austin Daye and Lenzelle Smith, Jr. were able to provide a spark off the bench and combined 10 points to help the BayHawks lead by two heading to the second frame.

The BayHawks jumped out to a nine-point lead midway through the second after Curry's long two, his second field goal of the quarter. Back-to-back threes by Iowa's Kalin Lucas highlighted a 12-2 Energy run to tie the game back by the 2:30 mark. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way marking a tied score at 48 at halftime.

An 8-2 run to open the second half gave Erie a momentary advantage as Iowa scored the game's next nine points to regain the lead. Joe Crawford, who was acquired in January and has seen 20+ minutes of action in the past three games, knocked down a three to tie the game back up after a Russ Smith had drilled a three on the other end. The Energy later closed the quarter on a 5-0 run after another Smith three.

A 10-0 run capped off by Lenzelle Smith Jr.'s basket and the foul got Erie back in front with just over eight minutes left in the game. Iowa's Smith capitalized on a three-point play himself as part of a 9-0 run to get Iowa's lead to double-digits for the first time in the game.

Trailing by nine with 2:46 to go in the game, Erie went on a quick 5-0 spurt to cut the Iowa lead. After two Curry free throws and a John Bohannon layup, Iowa's lead was just one with: 30 remaining. Iowa's Smith scored on a drive on the other end but couldn't capitalize the free throw, giving Erie a chance to tie the game with a three. Siva was sent to the line and made the first but clanked the second. Austin Daye was there for the rebound but failed to convert and Iowa hung on to win 96-94.

Curry led Erie with 17 points followed by Siva's 16. Iowa's Smith had a game-high 31 while Willie Reed tallied a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Erie will remain at home for their next four games starting with their final game versus the Canton Charge Friday at 7:00 pm. The BayHawks then host the Maine Red Claws next Sunday at 2:00 pm for "Salute Our Troops" Day.
