Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 16, 2014 - The Oklahoma City Blue picked up its first win of the season by defeating the Westchester Knicks, 91-84, Sunday at the Cox Convention Center.
Oklahoma City used a balanced scoring effort and strong defensive stretches to improve to 1-1 as nine Blue players scored five or more points, including five in double figures.
Ron Anderson tied a career-high with 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds in 18 minutes. Talib Zanna recorded his second-straight double-double with 11 points and 12 boards while Marquis Teague scored 14 points and distributed six assists.
Richard Solomon produced 11 points and six rebounds and Semaj Christon tallied 10 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists. Josh Huestis totaled five points, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
"I thought our guys did a really good job of carrying the lessons of Friday night and practice yesterday into the game today," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "I thought we played hard for 48 minutes, sustained our energy defensively and the ball moved better. Those were all things we tried to improve yesterday and tonight we got a better result."
Oklahoma City used an 18-1 run in the first half to build an 18-point lead and head into the halftime break up 46-32. The Blue shot 10-of-17 in the second quarter while holding the Knicks to 6-of-25. Daignault credited the Blue's big second quarter to the mindset of Oklahoma City's second unit.
"A lot of our guys coming off the bench in the second quarter came into the game with the right mentality," said Daigneault. "They brought energy, played the right way, moved the ball and got stops."
Westchester outscored Oklahoma City 27-22 in the third quarter, but the Blue held off the Knicks in the final frame behind 10 fourth-quarter points from Teague. Oklahoma City led by five or more points for the entirety of the final quarter.
The Blue controlled the paint throughout the game by outrebounding the Knicks 54-40 and outscoring them in the paint 52-30.
The Knicks were led by Langston Galloway with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and six steals.
Oklahoma City is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22 when it faces the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the Blue's first road game. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
