
Drive Have Rough Time on West Coast, Fall to Reno

RENO, Nev. - November 16, 2014 - The Grand Rapids Drive had a strong start to the ball game for the second-straight day, but couldn ' t maintain the pace.
The Drive lost 127-116 to the Reno Bighorns on Sunday night. It ' s the second-straight loss for Grand Rapids (0-2) to start the season on a West Coast trip. The Drive lost to Bakersfield 112-103 on Saturday.
Adonis Thomas, a forward out of Memphis, led five Grand Rapids players in double figures with 30 points on 13-of-24 shooting. Hasheem Thabeet and Ben Hansbrough had 18 apiece, Lorenzo Brown 15 and Josh Bostic 11.
Thabeet had a big first quarter. He had six points, four rebounds and back-to-back blocked shots. The 7-foot-3 center out of UConn, finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Grand Rapids held a 49-33 lead midway through the second quarter, but Reno (1-1) went on a 16-0 run to tie the game and eventually led 54-53 at halftime. The Drive would get as close as four points late - 114-110 - but would never regain the lead.
Bighorns sharpshooter Brady Heslip, who scored 40 points (11 3-pointers) on Thursday, was scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the ballgame. But the Baylor grad drained three 3-pointers in a 1-minute span to end the first half to doom the Drive. He finished with 38 points, including nine threes. David Stockton, the son of NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton, had 17 points and 14 assists.
Grand Rapids, a first-year team from West Michigan, continues its four-game road trip with a 7 p.m. matchup at the Westchester Knicks on Friday, Nov. 21. The Drive ' s first home game is Wednesday, Nov. 26 against the Lost Angeles D-Fenders.
