
D-Fenders Drop Home Opener to Legends

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders fell to the Texas Legends 130-108 tonight at the Toyota Sports Center.
The D-Fenders (0-2) were led by Lakers assignment players Xavier Henry (33 points, four rebounds), and Jordan Clarkson (28 points, five rebounds and five assists). Roscoe Smith recorded his second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds while Manny Harris finished in double figures with 14 points to go with four assists.
Doron Lamb finished with a team-high 23 points on 8-11 shooting for Texas (2-0). Damion James (18 points, 14 rebounds) and Bernard James (10 points, 11 rebounds) recorded double-doubles for the Legends. Eric Griffin (20 points, six rebounds and four assists), Renaldo Balkman (19 points, eight rebounds), Booker Woodfox (17 points) and Bubu Palo (12 points) all reached double figures for Texas.
Texas started out hot, outscoring Los Angeles 31-20 in the first quarter on .520 shooting. Damion James reached double figures for the quarter with 10 points. The hot shooting continued for Texas, as they finished the first half shooting .574 from the field with 69 points on the half. The D-Fenders were paced by Clarkson, who scored 20 points on the half. The Legends dished out 17 assists on the half, compared to just seven for Los Angeles.
The D-Fenders continued to struggle to start the second half, but a strong performance from Henry (15 points in the quarter), kept Los Angeles alive. The Legends stayed hot throughout the second half, with Balkman contributing 17 points for the half. A strong showing from the Lakers affiliate players was not enough for the D-Fenders, as they drop their home opener 130-108.
Overall, the D-Fenders shot .408 from the field, while Texas shot an eye-opening .538. Texas recorded 13 three-point field goals, compared to just six for Los Angeles. The Texas teamwork was too much for Los Angeles, as the Legends dished out 28 assists (compared to 16 for the D-Fenders), and finished with seven players in double-figures.
The D-Fenders are back in action at the Toyota Sports Center on Wednesday, November 19th as they host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 7:00 p.m.
