Craziness In Aberdeen

Following a dominating 5-2 win on Friday evening, the IronBirds fell to the Lowell Spinners 3-2 Saturday night in a back and forth contest. Saturday's game had all the drama and action a baseball fan could ask for. LHP Stephen Tarpley took the mound for the IronBirds and was spot on all night. Tarpley went seven complete innings where he allowed one run (earned) off of just three hits and struck out eight. The left-hander was dominate with his fastball all night as he allowed just two hits and recorded eight ground ball outs through the first five innings. In the sixth inning the Spinners got on the board as Deiner Lopez smoked a ball down the third baseline that went all the way to the wall. Lopez flashed his speed and was able to come all the way around to score on an inside the park homerun. Matt Trowbridge came on in relief on Tarpley as he went two innings, allowed two runs (1 earned) off of two hits and struck out four.

The IronBirds offense came to life in the ninth inning as they put up two runs and had the tying run on third. After Federico Castagnini was ejected in the sixth inning for arguing a strike call, Riley Palmer took his place in the lineup and stepped up big in the ninth. Palmer smacked a ball to left center field for a leadoff double. With one out, Jamill Moquete reached first base on a single and Palmer came around to score on an error from Spinner shortstop Mauricio Dubon. The score was 3-1 with one out. Randolph Gassaway knocked Moquete in on an RBI single and the Spinners lead was cut to one. With Oswill Lartiguez on third, the IronBirds sent Cory Segui to the plate with a chance to tie the game. Segui grounded out to short to end the game and the IronBirds lost 3-2.

Staying Positive

Jonah Heim was 2-3 in last night's game as he singled in the fourth and eighth inning. Heim was patient at the plate all night as he picked up his second multi-hit game of the season. Jamill Moquete was the only other IronBird to collect more than one hit as he went 2-4. Moquete collected his fifth multi-hit game of the season.

Sunshine And Baseball

RHP Matthew Grimes will start the final game of the series of the IronBirds. Aberdeen searches for their 7th series win of the year and fourth at home. The Spinners will send out RHP Aaron Wilkerson. First pitch is scheduled for 2:35.
