SAUGET, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies and Normal CornBelters split their doubleheader Sunday at GCS Ballpark in front of a crowd of 3,340 on Father's Day.

The Grizzlies picked up a walk-off win in game one by the score of 4-3. That game completed the suspended game from Saturday night.

Gateway (18-8) then fell in the nightcap by the score of 6-5.

The loss in game two snapped the Grizzlies winning streak at nine games. Despite the series finale loss, the Grizzlies won the series, giving them their seventh series win in nine series.

Jonathan Johnson drove in Vladimir Frias on a single in the ninth inning in game one to give the Grizzlies the walk-off win.

Zac Treece (4-0) picked up the victory with a scoreless inning of relief.

In game two, Gateway fell behind 5-0 early after a Patrick McKenna grand slam in the second inning for Normal (17-10).

Trailing 6-1 in the third, the Grizzlies started to chip away at the CornBelters advantage.

Gateway picked up a run in the third on a Johnson solo home run, his second home run of the season.

Jose Flores belted a solo home run in the fifth, his second of the season as well, to bring the Grizzlies within three.

Gateway then scored two runs in the seventh and final inning to draw within one, but Antone DeJesus struck out with runners on the corners to end the game.

Johnson and Chris McClendon paced the Gateway offense in game two with two hits each.

The Grizzlies enjoy an off day Monday before beginning a six-game road trip Tuesday with the series opener against the Southern Illinois Miners. Left-hander Gregg Downing (2-1) gets the start for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05 at Rent One Park.
