TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Traverse City Beach Bums scored six times in the first inning of Tuesday night's contest to take a commanding lead over the Lake Erie Crushers, and used the hot start to take the opening game of the series with a 12-5 victory.

For Lake Erie (6-10) the loss was their third in a row, following a three game winning streak, while the victory for the Beach Bums (9-7) was their fourth in a row at home.

The Beach Bums used a trio of extra base hits, including a pair of homeruns to highlight their big first frame. Taylor Wrenn brought in the first two runs on his first homerun of the season, before Zach Kometani drove in the following two runs on a double, and Chris Cowell capped the big inning with a two-run blast, his first of the year.

Traverse City then scored three more times in the second to take a 9-0 lead. With two runners aboard, Chase Burch tripled to the gap in right-center, and on his way to third, an errant relay throw skipped away from Andrew Davis, going into the dugout, which allowed Burch to score.

Lake Erie would score single runs in the next two innings on sacrifice fly balls. Daniel Bowman's sac fly scored Russ Moldenhauer in the third inning, before Emmanuel Quiles came home on Juan Sanchez's sac fly in the fourth.

The Beach Bums added another run in the fourth on Sean Gusrang's RBI groundout, and scored twice in the eighth on Kometani's first homerun of the season.

Lake Erie would benefit from the long ball as well, as Moldenhauer went the opposite direction with his second homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh, and David Roney drove in Lake Erie's final run in the ninth on a two-out double to plate Anderson Hidalgo.

Trevor Longfellow (2-2) suffered the loss, and did not make it out of the first inning. He recorded two outs, and allowed six runs on four hits before being replaced. Scott Dunn (3-0) scored the victory, after allowing four runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings of action.

Moldenhauer led the way for the Lake Erie offense, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, and two batted in. Andrew Davis and Max Casper also hit safely twice, as eight out of the starting nine reached safely at least once.

The Crushers will continue their three game series against the Traverse City Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park on Wednesday evening. The Crushers will start right hander Alex Kaminsky (1-1, 6.75) and the Beach Bums will start right hander Jake Sabol (3-0, 0.43). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
