NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have signed right-handed catcher Chris Wilson. This is his first season in professional baseball. The CornBelters continue their season tonight in Rockford and will be back at The Corn Crib Friday, June 7, to take on the Southern Illinois Miners at 7 p.m.
Wilson came to the CornBelters from the Las Vegas Train Robbers (Pecos League) where he hit .338 with seven doubles, four home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs in 17 games earlier this season.
Wilson played collegiately for San Diego State University (Mountain West Conference) where he played catcher and outfielder. He hit .259 with seven doubles, 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 26 runs in 50 games for the Aztecs in 2012.
"Chris came recommended to me by many players on our team," said CornBelters Field-Manager, Brooks Carey. "We were very impressed by his time at San Diego State, and he really fills some of the needs we have as a team right now."
