Norfolk Tides News Release

Two home runs and a strong pitching performance powered the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a 5-1 win over the Tides Thursday night at Harbor Park.

Dan Johnson hit a solo homer to get the RailRiders on the board in the fourth inning, and Ronnier Mustelier capped the scoring with a three-run homer off of Mark Hendrickson in the eighth. That was more than enough offense for Scranton starter Caleb Cotham (1-3), who yielded one unearned run on six hits in seven solid innings of work.

Tides starter Zach Britton did not allow a hit until two outs in the fourth inning, but Johnson ended the no-hit bid with a solo home run just over the right field wall. The homer was the first allowed by Britton in 45.0 innings with Norfolk and knotted the score at 1-1. One inning later, Addison Maruszak led off the frame with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Alberto Gonzalez, giving Scranton a 2-1 advantage. The score stayed 2-1 until the eighth inning, when Mustelier belted a one-out pitch over the left field wall to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead.

Britton leveled his record at 2-2 with the tough-luck loss, surrendering three hits in five innings of work. He walked two and struck out five while throwing 51 of his 86 pitches for strikes.

Jason Pridie had two of Norfolk's eight hits to lead the Tides offense, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. He's now batted .455 (5-for-11) in three games since being activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

With the loss, Norfolk dropped into second place behind Durham, the first time the Tides have not held at least a share of first place since May 2.

The Tides will welcome the Buffalo Bisons to Harbor Park Friday night for the start of a four-game series. Tsuyoshi Wada (0-2, 5.54) will make his fourth rehab start for Norfolk and will be opposed by right-hander Dave Bush (5-4, 5.06).

On Friday, the Tides welcome actor Larry Thomas for a special appearance at Harbor Park. Thomas is most famous for his role as "The Soup Nazi" from "Seinfeld". He will sign autographs and pose for pictures as long as everyone behaves in a calm and orderly fashion.
