Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Durham Bulls in the final game of a four-game series at Durham Bulls Athletic Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd needs a win today to avoid a four-game sweep. After tonight's game, the Bisons will leave for Norfolk for a four-game set with the Tides.
vs. the Bulls
The Bisons are now just 2-17 at DBAP since the 2009 season. Durham picked up home sweeps against the Bisons in 2010 and last year. Winless in their last nine games at DBAP, the Bisons have not won in Durham since a 9-1 victory on June 21, 2011.
Johnson to start
RHP JOSH JOHNSON will make his second MLB rehab start with the Bisons tonight. The 2-time National League All-Star spun four shutout innings on May 25 against Indianapolis. In that outing, Johnson allowed just an infield single and a walk while striking out three batters. Johnson began his rehab stint with a three-inning outing for Single-A Dunedin on May 20 (3H, R, 0 BB, 5 SO).
Inside-the-Parker
INF RYAN GOINS hit an inside-the-park home run in last night's loss. It was Buffalo's first since INF Matt Tuiasosopo accomplished the feat on May 16, 2012 at home against Gwinnett. Prior to that, the Herd's most recent inside-the-park homer came at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, compliments of INF Mike Jacobs on June 9, 2010.
Roster Move
RHP JOEL CARRENO has joined the Bisons from New Hampshire (AA). The righty was 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA and seven saves with the Fisher Cats. Eastern League hitters averaged just .128 (12-94) against him with no home runs and 44 strikeouts.
Homering Herd
The Bisons have 61 home runs on the season, seven more than any IL club. At this pace, the Herd would hit 172 home runs this season, which would be their most since slugging 179 out in 2005. INF MAURO GOMEZ and INF LUIS JIMENEZ share the team lead with 10 homers.
Bisons Bits
INF JIM NEGRYCH leads all IL hitters with his .377 average...OF RICARDO NANITA has hit in four of his first five games since joining the Bisons on May 21...RHP JOHN STILSON has thrown two shutout innings in each of his first three appearances with the Herd.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (23-30) picked up a 3-0 shutout win over the Braves on Wednesday. Recently promoted Bisons pitchers RHP NEIL WAGNER and LHP JUAN PEREZ combined to toss 4.2 shutout innings with six strikeouts to only one hit allowed. Toronto takes on the Braves again tonight at 7:10 p.m.
