Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - In an old-fashioned pitcher's duel, Frisco RHP Carlos Pimentel limited the Cardinals to one hit in seven innings in a 1-0 Roughriders' win in front of 5,960 fans at Hammons Field on Thursday night.

Despite the loss, Springfield remained in first-place in the Texas League North after Arkansas fell 1-0 in San Antonio.

The Cardinals (24-20) got a great start from LHP Tim Cooney (L, 2-1), who held the RoughRiders (25-21) to four hits and one run in seven strong innings. Unfortunately, Frisco starter RHP Carlos Pimentel (W, 6-1) was nearly unhittable. Pimentel took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Springfield LF Mike O'Neill singled to centerfield with two outs. That base-knock from O'Neill was the only hit Pimentel allowed in seven innings of work.

Frisco scored the game's only run in the sixth inning, when 1B Brett Nicholas singled LF Teodoro Martinez home from second base with two outs. Springfield was never able to get on the scoreboard, as the RoughRiders' pitching only allowed two Cardinals to advance past first base in the 1-0 Frisco victory.

Springfield resumes their homestand with a 7:09pm first pitch against the Frisco RoughRiders on Friday, May 24th. Catch all the action on JOCK 98.7 FM and SpringfieldCardinals.com, and tune in 15 minutes early for the Coyote's Sports Cafe Pregame Show.

The Cardinals current homestand features AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks featuring Country Music on Fri., May 24, the Yadier Molina Gold and Platinum Glove Award Giveaway (2,500 fans) on Sat., May 25 and much more!
