Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY. -- After a long day traveling from McCoy Stadium to Louisville Slugger Field, the Pawtucket Red Sox endured an even longer night, falling to the Louisville Bats, 10-0, in Thursday's opener of an eight-day road trip.

The PawSox convened at their home ballpark for a 5 a.m. bus to T.F. Green Airport. Scheduled to arrive in Louisville by way of Philadelphia in late morning, their connecting flight was cancelled, they were rerouted through Charlotte and didn't touch down in Kentucky until less than an hour before the scheduled first pitch.

With the game time then pushed back more than an hour, Louisville lefty Tony Cingrani offered his first pitch to Jackie Bradley Jr. at 7:44 p.m. Much like most of the evening still to unfold, it went the home club's way.

Cingrani (W, 1-0), who wound up striking out Bradley on three pitches, had not allowed a run in his first 14 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. Nor would he in five more innings against the PawSox.

By the time Cingrani entrusted his shutout with the Louisville bullpen, following five strikeouts, the Bats had long ago broken open the contest at the expense of Pawtucket's Terry Doyle (L, 3-4).

Louisville took a 1-0 lead in the first on Felix Perez's RBI single. It was the first of Perez's three run-scoring hits. The second came in the midst of a nine-batter, five-run second. The pivotal blow in the uprising was a three-run double by ninth-place hitter, Josh Fellhauer.

After two innings, the Bats led 6-0. They would add single runs in the third and fourth innings, as well as a two spot in the seventh.

In all, Louisville collected 17 hits. Seven of the nine starters finished with multiple knocks. The Bats also put the leadoff man on base in seven of the eight innings in which they batted, while going 7-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

The PawSox did get a two-hit performance from Bradley, who raised his average to .322. But they managed only five other hits against Cingrani and three relievers, succumbing in their third shutout loss of the season.

Game 2 of the four-day series is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Friday, when Armando Galarraga (2-2, 2.37) takes the mound for Louisville to oppose Alfredo Aceves (2-1, 3.13).
