Intimidators Swept By Power

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. May 22, 2013- The West Virginia Power completed a three-game sweep in Kannapolis by topping the Intimidators 8-6 Wednesday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Kannapolis (15-27) led 5-4 through four innings before West Virginia (24-22) used three runs over the next two frames to recapture the lead.

Pat Ludwig (4-0) worked 4.0 relief innings, allowing a run on three hits, to secure the win, and Kyle Haynes spun a scoreless ninth for the save (2).

Intimidators starter Brandon Brennan (1-7) suffer his league-leading seventh loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) on 13 hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two along the way.

Trailing 5-4 in the top of the fifth, West Virginia's Stetson Allie singled and later scored on Jonathan Schwind's game-tying single. The Power pulled ahead in the sixth as Junior Sosa singled and came home on an Allie fielder's choice. D.J. Crumlich added another run on Eric Wood's infield single for a 7-5 lead.

Brent Tanner pulled the Intimidators within a run in the bottom of the seventh with a home run to straight-away center field, his second with Kannapolis. Tanner finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

The Power plated three in the first inning as South Atlantic League RBI-leader Stetson Allie connected on an RBI-triple. Allie and Eric Wood later scored on Intimidators errors for a 3-0 lead.

Kannapolis leapfrogged the Power in the home half of the first as the first four batters all hit safely. Micah and Michael Johnson each singled, and Eric Grabe tripled them in to put the Intimidators on the board. Brent Tanner followed with a game-tying double and later scored on Justin Jirschele's go-ahead double for a 4-3 lead.

The Power tied the game in the second inning but missed an opportunity to take the lead at that time. Dilson Herrera's infield single cashed Ashley Ponce to knot the game at 4. With the bases loaded and one out, Allie lined into centerfield where Kale Kiser made made a diving catch then threw back to third base to double off Junior Sosa, who was ruled to have left early for home.

Michael Johnson pulled the Intimidators in front in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out single to plate Kiser. Johnson finished 2-for-4 with a walk, extending his career-best on-base streak to 16 games. He is now batting .431 (22-51) in May, currently fourth-best in Minor League Baseball.

The Minors' stolen base leader Micah Johnson also went 2-for-4 with a walk and stolen two more bases but was caught stealing twice, upping his total cache to 42 stolen bases in 52 attempts.

Reliever Joe Dvorksy worked 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, and Stew Brase gave up a run pitching the ninth.

The Intimidators hit the road for seven games, starting with four at Hickory followed by three in Lexington. The team returns to CMC- NorthEast Stadium on Thursday, May 30, to open at five-game series with Savannah.
