LAST GAME: Cory Vaughn highlighted a six-run fifth inningle with a grand slam as the B-Mets came from behind to beat the Akron Aeros, 9-4 Wednesday night. For the third straight night, Akron stuck first against B-Met pitching. The Aeros scored three runs in the third inning against Jacob deGrom. Akron starter Jordan Cooper held the Binghamton offense down through 4.2 innings, but they exploded in the fifth. After the first two men of the inning had been retired, Binghamton rallied to score six runs, including the Vaughn grand slam, to take a 6-3 lead. After scoring three more runs in the sixth, the B-Mets never looked back. deGrom threw 7.0 innings and earned his first career Double-A win. Binghamton earned their first series sweep of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his eighth start of the season for the B-Mets, and his second against the SeaDogs. He has won his last two decisions, and Binghamton has won the last four games Goeddel has started. The righty is allowing opponents to hit .299 against him. He won his last start; Goeddel threw 5.0 innings and gave up four runs in a win over Harrisburg on 5/10. In his only start against Portland on 4/24, he received a no-decision after throwing four innings. Erik was drafted in the 24th round of the 2010 draft by the Mets out of UCLA.

PORTLAND STARTING PITCHER: RHP Matt Barnes makes his eighth start of the season, and his first against the B-Mets. He enters the game 3-1 with a 4.65 ERA. He got a no-decision in his last start, where he threw 5.0 innings against New Britain on 5/11. The right-hander gave up one run on three hits in the start. Opponents are batting .282 against him in 2013, and he has won his last two starts. Barnes was drafted in the first round of the 2011 draft by the Boston Red Sox out of the University of Connecticut.

BIG INNINGS: The B-Mets scored six runs on five hits to take the lead in the fifth inning on Wednesday. That inning was the third frame this season where Binghamton has plated at least six runs. They scored 11 runs in the 4th inning 4/12 vs New Hampshire, and scored six runs in the 1st inning 5/12 vs. Harrisburg (G2)

GRAND SALAMI: Cory Vaughn hit the first B-Met grand slam of the season Wednesday night against Akron. Vaughn is tied with Cesar Puello for the team lead with five home runs in 2013. Binghamton did not hit a grand slam in 2012.

HITS ON HITS: Since being no-hit by the Harrisburg Senators on 5/9, Binghamton is 5-1. They are averaging 6.67 runs and 9.17 hits per game. In three of the last four games, the B-Mets have tallied more than 10 hits. Prior to the homestand, they had done that 13 times.

SEARCHING FOR FIVE STRAIGHT: With a win on Friday, the B-Mets would have their first five-game winning streak since they won six in a row from 8/26/11 to 9/1/11. In 2012, they had three four-game winning streaks, but the B-Mets lost the next game each time.

BULLPEN NUMBERS: On Friday, the B-Met bullpen added two more scoreless innings in their 9-4 victory. Over their last 31.0 innings on the hill, they have only allowed six earned runs. Jeff Walters is a perfect 10-for-10 in save chances in 2013, and he leads the Eastern League in that category. Binghamton's bullpen has posted a 3.32 ERA, whereas the starting rotation has a 4.09 ERA.

DEFENSIVE BLUNDERS: Despite winning on Wednesday, the B-Met defense made five errors. That matched a season-high in errors in any game this season. They made five errors 5/7 v AKR, and 4/22 @ POR.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets face the Portland SeaDogs in Game Two of the three-game series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM, and Binghamton will send LHP Mark Cohoon to the hill. He will oppose RHP Anthony Ranaudo.
