West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with Forest Hills Northern High School, announced today that Fifth Third Ballpark will host the Greenville Yellow Jackets vs. Forest Hills Northern Huskies football game on Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
The game is expected to be an even matchup of two teams from the O-K Bronze conference. Both teams finished the 2012 campaigns with 4-5 records and are looking for playoff berths in 2013. FHN won last year's contest against Greenville by a 17-3 score.
Forest Hills Northern will be the home game for this matchup. Tickets will be $5 for students and $7 for the general public. Additional details and the ticket on-sale date will be announced at a later date.
The game will act as a fundraiser for the Forest Hills Schools Athletic Department, with a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorships, parking and food & beverage going to support the tremendous athletic opportunities throughout the district.
Forest Hills Northern Athletic Director Stephanie Hare said the FHN athletes are looking forward to playing at Fifth Third Ballpark.
"Our kids are very excited to play at the ballpark," Hare said. "The Fifth Third Ballpark facilities give the athletes an opportunity to experience playing in a non-traditional setting. Athletes, parents and coaches are looking forward to the October 11th event."
While Fifth Third Ballpark is primarily used for Minor League baseball games, the venue has played host to a multitude of other events in recent years, including concerts, high school and college baseball games, corporate outings and carnivals. Football made its debut here in 2007 when Grand Valley State University defeated Wayne State University. Since then many high school games have brought their rivalries to the ballpark, including powerhouses Rockford vs. Muskegon in 2010 and Forest Hills Central vs. East Grand Rapids in 2012.
The 2013 Whitecaps baseball season is in full swing, with the next home stand scheduled to start this Friday, May 17 against the Bowling Green Hot Rods at 6:35 p.m. Season, group and individual game tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131, by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com, or in person at the Fifth Third Ballpark ticket office (open Monday-Friday from 10 to 6 p.m.).
