San Jose Earthquakes News Release
NEW YORK (May 15, 2013) - MLS Commissioner Don Garber has reduced by one game the suspension issued to San Jose Earthquakes forward Marvin Chavez for violent conduct in a May 8 game against Toronto FC. After hearing an appeal from Chavez, the Commissioner's decision means that Chavez will be eligible for the Earthquakes game May 18 against the Colorado Rapids.
Chavez, 29, has one assist in four games for the Earthquakes so far this season. He missed the club's first seven games due to a sprained medial-collateral ligament. The Honduran international was a key piece on San Jose's Supporters' Shield squad from a year ago, recording three goals and a career-high 13 assists, third most in MLS.
The Earthquakes host the Rapids on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium (7:30 p.m. PT / CSN Plus) for Health & Wellness Night, presented by Kaiser Permanente. The match is sold out, but a small amount of tickets are still available through the Summer of Soccer Mini-Plan. For more details, visit www.sjearthquakes.com.
