Patriots Double up Ducks 12-6 to Clinch Series

Central Islip, NY - The Somerset Patriots (16-7) defeated the Long Island Ducks (7-16) 12-6 Saturday night from Bethpage Ballpark in the second game of a day-night doubleheader. The game was delayed an hour and 15 minutes at the start due to rain. The Patriots clinched the series and have now won four of the six meetings against the reigning Atlantic League Champions this season.

The Ducks plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Right fielder Joash Brodin laced a RBI triple and another run would come across on a wild pitch thrown by starter Graham Taylor.

In the ensuing half inning the Patriots cut the deficit in half as left fielder Ahron Eggleston slapped a RBI single to left field making the score 2-1.

Long Island tacked on a run in the bottom of the second inning as designated hitter Dontrelle Willis hit a RBI sacrifice fly to left field to increase the lead to 3-1.

Willis once again delivered as poked a RBI single through the right side of the infield in the home half of the fourth inning as the Ducks added to their lead making the score 4-1.

Somerset took the lead in the top of the fifth inning which they would not relinquish. Somerset plated five runs on five hits in that frame. Third baseman Corey Smith blooped a RBI single to right field to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Designated Mike Wilson roped a RBI single through the left side to balloon his hitting streak to 11 games. Right fielder Luis Montanez extended his hitting streak to nine games by striking a go ahead two RBI double to straight away center field that made the score 5-4. Catcher Adam Donachie sliced a RBI single into right field making the score 6-4.

Ducks catcher Ralph Henriquez drew a bases loaded walk against Roy Merritt in the home half of the fifth inning forcing in a run making the contest 6-5.

The Patriots plated three key insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a commanding 9-5 lead. Montanez hit a RBI single to center field and first baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve blooped a two RBI that just hooked inside the right field line.

Willis registered his third RBI of the game as he another sacrifice fly making the score 9-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Patriots added to their lead by scoring three more times in the ninth inning. Center fielder Jonny Tucker blasted a two run home run (1) to left-center field and Wilson would add a RBI single upping the score to 12-6 which would be the final.

David Harden (3-0) earned the win tossing a solid 3.2 innings of relief. The Patriots bullpen as a while pitched 8.1 remarkable innings. Starter Matt Way (1-1) suffered the loss.
