
Ducks Defeat Patriots 6-5 in Game One of Doubleheader

Central Islip, NY - The Long Island Ducks (7-15) overcame two different deficits to win the first game of a day-night doubleheader against the Somerset Patriots (15-7) 6-5 Saturday afternoon from Bethpage Ballpark. The two squads have split the first two games of this three game weekend series.
In the top of the first inning designated hitter Corey Smith socked a two RBI double and center fielder Luis Montanez hit a RBI double to give Somerset an early 3-0 lead. Smith and Montanez each extended their hitting streaks to eight games with their doubles.
The Ducks tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning as first baseman Anthony Armenio roped a three RBI triple down the right field line.
The Flock grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as second baseman Ray Navarette socked a RBI sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Ducks
Somerset would retake the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Catcher James Skelton tied the game with a RBI sacrifice fly to center field and then shortstop Bobby Stevens poked a go ahead two out RBI single down the left field line to give the Patriots a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth inning designated hitter Ralph Henriquez slugged a go ahead two run home run (3) to deep right-center field to give the Ducks a 6-5 advantage which would be the final score.
Jared Lansford (1-1) earned the win. Paul Phillips (1-1) suffered the loss. Leo Rosales notched his fourth save of the season.
