Reading Fightin Phils News Release
READING, PA---Friday's game between the Reading Fightin Phils and Akron Aeros was suspended at the conclusion of the seventh inning due to inclement weather. The game will be resumed on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. followed by the originally scheduled nine inning game.
Before the game was suspended, though, Reading roared back from a two-run deficit in the last two innings played. Through a heavy downpour, Cameron Rupp blasted his second home run in as many days to leadoff the sixth inning. As it rained harder an inning later, the Fightins didn't hold up. Zach Collier reached base via walk and scored on a Jim Murphy two-out triple to tie the game. Following the third out of the inning, the game entered a rain delay and was suspended nearly 40 minutes later.
Reading starter Seth Rosin gave up two runs, one earned, in the first inning, but battled through the remainder of his six innings. The runs came after the first three Aeros hitters reached base off the former Giants prospect. With the bases loaded, Jesus Aguilar hit into a fielder's choice at third where Tyler Holt was forced out at home. Justin Toole scored on the play, though, after Cameron Rupp made an errant throw to first as he attempted to record the double play. In the next at-bat, Carlos Moncrief scored Chun Chen on a sacrifice fly.
The Fightins scored their first run in the second inning when Derrick Mitchell scored on Tyson Gillies' single, his first RBI with the team this season.
Rosin gave up one additional run over the final five frames while strike out three and walking two. The Minnesota native's third run came on a Chen solo home run in the third inning.
Reliever Jay Johnson fought through a scoreless seventh inning and struck out one prior to the game being halted after the seventh.
After resuming Friday's game at 5:35 p.m., the Fightins will play their originally scheduled game and send LHP Greg Smith (0-1, 1.80 ERA) against Akron's Will Roberts (1-1, 3.86 ERA). Tune into Oldies 1340 WRAW-AM, Service Electric 2Sports, or MiLB.TV for the game broadcast with Fightins play-by-play announcer Anthony Oppermann starting at 5:05 p.m.
Fightins Fillers: Prior to the game, 2012 Reading reliever Colby Shreve was added to the roster from Clearwater (A+)...Tyler Henson exited the game in the fifth inning after suffering a leg injury while running to first on a ground out.
The Fightin Phils continue their 47th season affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, May 11 when the team takes on the Akron Aeros at 5:35 p.m. Following the game there will be a post-game fireworks show thanks to Asher's Chocolate. Tickets for the 2013 season can be purchased online at Fightins.com, by phone at 610-370-BALL, or in-person by visiting the FirstEnergy Stadium Ticket Office.
