Morrissey Named WHL Scholastic Player of the Year

Prince Albert SK- Prince Albert Raiders' defenceman Josh Morrissey was named the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year and the annual WHL Awards today in Calgary.

Morrissey finished his sophomore season with the Green and Gold leading the team's blueliners with 15 goals and 47 points. In addition to playing a major role on the ice, Morrissey worked tirelessly at his studies, spending supplementary time with tutors and graduating from high school with honours.

The Calgary, Alberta product just returned from a gold medal performance with Team Canada at the World Under-18 Championships in Sochi. Morrissey led the tournament in plus/minus and tied for the lead in defenceman scoring and was named one of Canada's top-3 players in the event.

The next step for the 6', 185-pound rearguard will be preparing for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on June 30th in Newark, New Jersey.
