March 15, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Sudbury Wolves by a score of 5-1 in Sudbury on Friday night. With the result the Niagara IceDogs will finish sixth in the Eastern Conference standings and will face the Oshawa Generals in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal.
The first period saw the game remain scoreless for much of the frame as both IceDogs starter Brent Moran and Sudbury starter Franky Palazzese were on their game early. Unfortunately for the IceDogs, they would not make it out of the frame scoreless as Sudbury would strike twice in the final two minutes of the frame to put the visitors down 2-0 headed into the first intermission. Shots after one were 14-7 Sudbury.
The second would see the score remain 2-0 until the 11:18 mark of the frame when Sudbury would score again to make it a 3-0 game. The IceDogs would continue to pressure the Wolves as they looked to close the gap, outshooting Sudbury 13-9 in the period, but would be unable to find the net in the second and Sudbury would add another goal in the final minute of the frame to make it a 4-0 IceDogs deficit after 40 minutes.
The third period would see Jordan Maletta get the IceDogs on the powerplay at the 8:11 mark of the frame to make it a 4-1 game. The IceDogs would continue to battle as they looked to close the gap further, but they would be unable to get any closer and Sudbury would add a 5-on-3 powerplay goal late to make it a 5-1 final. Final shots were 34-21 Sudbury.
The IceDogs will now close out the regular season by traveling to Barrie to visit the Colts in their final regular season game Saturday night. The IceDogs will then open their playoff schedule against the Oshawa Generals in Oshawa next Friday and Sunday.
The IceDogs will return home on Tuesday, March 26th and Thursday, March 28th for games 3 & 4 of the series. Tickets for both those games will go on sale this coming Monday, March 18th at 10am through all IceDogs ticketing locations. Get your tickets early and be sure not to miss any of what should be a great playoff series!
