Prep Class: Seattle to Play Veracruz in Preseason Friendly

In preparation for their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series against Mexico's Tigres in March, Sounders FC has added a friendly to their game schedule in Tucson. Seattle will face Veracruz of the Mexican second division on February 22 at Kino Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT (7 p.m. local).

Seattle will once again prepare for the Champions League quarters by playing a similarly styled team in preseason training. Last season, Sounders FC hosted Jaguares de Chiapas in the final week of preseason, winning 2-nil at CenturyLink Field. Seattle then jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first leg against Santos Laguna but ultimately fell to the eventual runners-up, 7-3 on aggregate.

In a Rhythm: Wednesday/Saturday Games

Performing best when in a game-playing rhythm, Sounders FC will play Wednesday and Saturday games for the next two weeks in preparations for the start to the season, which features a Saturday night opener against the Montreal Impact and Wednesday evening road match at Tigres. The match heavy portion of training camp includes five games scheduled over a 10-day span in the Arizona desert.

Returning to Full Strength

Head coach Sigi Schmid is certainly looking forward to the Tucson leg of preseason training as it marks the return of his team to full strength. Most notably, Seattle's quartet of internationals will rejoin the team for the first time this preseason. Eddie Johnson and Brad Evans returns to Seattle followed the match at Honduras last Wednesday. Adam Johansson flew 15 hours from Sweden to rejoin the group in Seattle last week. And Mario Martinez is set to meet the team in Tucson from San Pedro Sula.

Several ill and injured players have also returned to full training, including Osvaldo Alonso, Alex Caskey, Michael Gspurning and Lamar Neagle. All four players missed the first preseason match of the season last week and Schmid was forced to play eight invitees for extended minutes.

Additionally, 2013 second round Supplemental Draft pick Kevin Durr has joined the club in Tucson.

Major League Soccer Unveils "Jersey Week"

MLS announced its newest annual platform, "Jersey Week." This concept celebrates the art, detail and nuance behind every club's jersey and the passion that supporters have for their club. Jersey Week will take place February 25-28, 2013, with a national launch event taking place in New York on February 25, in conjunction with the New York Red Bulls. Artist Curtis Kulig will be unveiling original pieces of art featuring the 19 MLS clubs at this event. In addition to the national event, there will be 11 local events where MLS clubs will unveil a new primary, secondary or third jersey.

Every year will see a new thematic. This year's theme, "Jersey as Art," will allow clubs to share the story behind the making of their new jersey with their supporters and will focus on the art and detail that went into the collaborative process with adidas, MLS' official merchandise partner.

Twelve MLS clubs will unveil at least one new jersey in 2013. Starting in 2014, all 19 MLS clubs will unveil at least one new jersey (home, away or third kit) every single year.

In advance of Jersey Week, jerseys that will be unveiled will be available for pre-order on MLSgear.com and MLSGearCanada.ca -- using teaser images -- starting today. There will also be Jersey Week coverage on MLSsoccer.com and a social media campaign using the #JerseyWeek hashtag.

MLS will join efforts with the Futbol Artists Network (FAN) as they create the "True Colors" of MLS. Artists from across the United States and Canada will create canvas art, utilizing club marks, club colors and jersey teaser images. The "True Colors" artwork will be featured via MLS social media platforms in the two weeks leading up to Jersey Week using the #TrueColors hashtag.

MLS clubs will announce additional details on their local events in the coming days.
