Brahmas Weekly Update

December 10, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

FORT WORTH, Texas (December 10) - The Fort Worth Brahmas earned three of four possible points last week, going 1-0-1 and moving into sole possession of seventh place in the Central Hockey League. The Brahmas have three games this week, including two against the first-place Wichita Thunder.

LOOKING BACK:

After a rare Friday night off, the Brahmas hosted back-to-back games at the NYTEX Sports Centre Saturday and Sunday.

Fort Worth lost a heartbreaker 4-3 in a shootout to the Denver Cutthroats Saturday night, after Dean Strong's goal with 1:34 to play in the third period sent the game into overtime. The Brahmas were unable to convert on any of the four attempts in the shootout, while Jamie MacQueen and Luke Fulghum both snuck one by Fort Worth netminder Kristofer Westblom. MacQueen was credited with the game-winning goal. Phil Fox scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the first period of the contest, becoming the first Brahmas player to reach double-digit scores. Sy Nutkevitch also notched a goal, extending his point streak to five games.

The Brahmas rebounded Sunday from the tough loss the night before, defeating the Tulsa Oilers 1-0 behind Brad Fogal's 21-save, shutout performance. The victory was Fort Worth's third in a row over the Oilers. It was Fogal's first shutout of the season and the Brahmas' third, a mark which leads the CHL. Riley Boychuk scored the lone goal of the game, as he found himself behind the defense for a breakaway and beat Tulsa goaltender Ian Keserich with a wrister through the five-hole. For Boychuk, it was his fifth goal of the season and first in six games, the last coming November 24 at Wichita. With the win, the Brahmas extended their home point streak to six games.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Brahmas prepare for three games this weekend - Friday, December 14 at the Wichita Thunder, Saturday, December 15 versus the Arizona Sundogs and Sunday, December 16 versus the Thunder again. Saturday and Sunday's games will be played at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills.

The Brahmas are 0-2-0 against the first-place Thunder this season, having lost 6-2 at home November 11 and 5-4 on the road November 24. Tomas Klempa leads the Brahmas with four points (one goal, three assists) in the two games versus Wichita this season. Rookie Greger Hanson paces the Thunder with five points (two goals, three assists) in the two previous meetings.

Fort Worth is 1-1-0 against Arizona thus far in 2012-2013. The Brahmas were shut out by netminder David Brown in a 4-0 loss at Tim's Toyota Center October 31, but rebounded and returned the favor November 30 with a 3-0 rout at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Kristofer Westblom made 24 saves to blank the Sundogs and record his second consecutive shutout, a feat only four other goalies in Brahmas history have ever achieved.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS:
