Hitmen win over Oil Kings
December 8, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL) Calgary Hitmen
Edmonton, AB - Zane Jones scored a pair of third period goals to break a 2-2 tie lifting the Calgary Hitmen to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night at Rexall Place.The win vaults the Hitmen two points ahead of the Oil Kings for the Central Division lead and one point up on the Prince Albert Raiders for first place in the WHL's Eastern Conference.
Edmonton jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead but Cody Sylvester struck 29 seconds later to cut the deficit to 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Carson Samoridny pulled Calgary even scoring shorthanded in the second period.
Pavlo Padakin, into an empty net, also scored for Calgary while Brady Brassart and Brooks Macek both chipped in a pair of assists.
Chris Driedger made 33 saves to pick up the win in goal as the Hitmen improve to 4-0 against the Oil Kings this season.
Calgary, now 20-6-1-2, will host Edmonton tomorrow in the rematch at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Game time is 7:00 p.m. in the TELUS Shake up the "Dome game.
Sponsored by Co-op and Citytv, fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Calgary Food Bank. Co-op has donated 10,000 boxes of macaroni in support of the cause and upon arrival, fans will receive a box of macaroni to use to "shake up the "Dome" creating atmosphere and support for the Battle of Alberta.
The Calgary Food Bank can turn just $1 into $4 worth of food. Donation boxes will also be present during Saturday's game in an effort to raise additional funds for the Food Bank.
