Regina Pats News Release

First Period

It was a tough start for the visitors Saturday night. The Blades pounced on the Pats for two goals early. First it was Matej Stransky accepting a feed from Brenden Walker and snapping a shot by Teagan Sacher to open the scoring. Just nineteen seconds later, Nick Zajac crashed the net and jammed a puck into the goal that Sacher thought he had covered. The Pats stemmed the tide, but Saskatoon struck again when Adam Kambeitz popped in a rebound off the stick of Stransky to make it 3-0 after one.

Second Period

The Pats did a better job of limiting chances and shots in the middle frame, but the Blades were opportunistic. On the Blades second shot of the period, Dalton Thrower pulled a beautiful move to get to the front of the net and slid the puck around Sacher to make it 4-0. The barrage continued as Nathan Burns worked his way in front of the goal to tap in a rebound after Josh Nicholls broke free towards the goal. Stransky would make it six nothing on his second of the game from Walker. The Pats had their best opportunity of the period when Morgan Klimchuk picked up the puck in the offensive zone, opened up some space and just about beat Andrey Makarov five hole.

Third Period

The final frame didn't hold any better fortune for the Pats as the Blades continued to put goals on the board. Walker opened the Blades' scoring in the third period with an assist to Stransky who totaled four points on the evening. Nicholls joined the goal spree scoring back to back goals to bring his total to 21 on the season. The Pats garnered a few powerplay chances late in the game, but couldn't find a way to beat Makarov who made 15 saves for his third shutout on the season.
