Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips outshot Seattle 34-25 in Friday night's game, but didn't find the back of the net until the final seconds in a 5-1 loss to the Thunderbirds at Comcast Arena. The Silvertips will look to get back in the win column Saturday at Comcast Arena against the Vancouver Giants, against whom they are 3-0 so far this season.

Tyler Sandhu scored the lone Everett goal, breaking up Brandon Glover's shutout bid on the powerplay with 6.7 seconds remaining in the contest. Glover (15-10-1-0) ended with 33 saves and first star honors in the victory for Seattle. Ryan Harrison was named the game's third star in his first game back from a nearly month-long injury absence.

The Silvertips had quality scoring chances in the first period, but Seattle would come away with a 1-0 lead. Alexander Delnov picked up the puck behind the 'Tips net and fed it in front to Roberts Lipsbergs, who scored his 15th of the season from the slot. Reid Petryk deflected away a puck that made its way behind Daniel Cotton later in the period to keep the deficit at one through 20 minutes.

The Thunderbirds made it 2-0 midway through the second period as the 'Tips found themselves trapped in their own zone and Seth Swenson spun around in the high slot before scoring on a screened shot along the ice. Seattle added another goal off a faceoff just 11 seconds later when Cotton stopped an initial shot from the point only to have the rebound find the stick of Mitch Elliott, who scored his first of the season. Cotton made an outstanding save in the final minute of the period, breaking up a 3-on-0 rush with a diving poke check to prevent another T-Birds goal.

Seattle stretched the lead to 4-0 at 6:52 of the third period as Riley Sheen banged in a rebound in front just two seconds after a Thunderbirds powerplay expired. Glover continued to stand on his head in goal to keep the 'Tips off the board and Brendan Rouse deflected a shot in front for the fifth and final goal T-Birds goal. Glover was just seconds away from the shutout when Tyler Sandhu's centering feed deflected off a defenseman and into the net for a powerplay goal with only 6.7 seconds left.

Daniel Cotton (8-8-0-0) stopped 20 of 25 shots in net for Everett while taking the loss. The Silvertips scored once on five powerplays and killed off all five Seattle opportunities.

The Silvertips finish the weekend with another home rivalry game Saturday night against the Vancouver Giants. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm at Comcast Arena as the 'Tips look to go 4-0 against the Giants this season on our first of three Silvertips "Scout Nights".
