Kingston Frontenacs News Release

Kingston-With 12 wins and 10 losses after the first 22 games of the season-including opening the season with three straight wins-the Kingston Frontenacs are a much improved team compared to last season. With the addition of a strong rookie core, much was expected of this year's team. Rookie forward Spencer Watson is tied with veteran forward Darcy Greenaway in team scoring with 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists). Watson is 4th in league for rookie scoring, with fellow rookie forward Sam Bennett in 11th (16 points with 7 goals, 9 assists) and rookie defenceman Roland McKeown 14th (14 points with 3 goals, 11 assists). But the success of this year's Kingston Frontenacs extends beyond the team on the ice. After a 2011-12 season where paid attendance at the K-Rock Centre averaged 2,542 fans, attendance to-date for the 2012-13 season is up nearly 20 percent. In comparing the first 12 home games, 2012-13 saw 3,074 in average attendance compared with 2,464 for 2011-12.

"The work that the Hockey Operations side of our club has done, under General Manager Doug Gilmour's direction is, without a doubt, impressive," said Justin Chenier, Executive Director of Business Operations for the Kingston Frontenacs. "The Business Operations side of the club has worked just as hard in launching the new brand and creating excitement and buzz around the team. We've worked with our partners in the business community and in the media to create a bigger awareness footprint about the Kingston Frontenacs. The Downtown Kingston Nice Save promotion and the $9.83 ticket on Sundays in the 98.3 FLY FM Family Fun Zone are both great examples of partnerships that are direct benefits for fans."

While many factors can be attributed to the increase-from hockey-starved NHL fans looking for a hockey fix in the midst of the lockout, to a young and talented team that looks to match last season's entire win total before they even reach the halfway mark this season-there isn't any time for anyone in the club to rest on the success to date.

"Winning makes a team easier to sell to fans, but any team will win and lose games. It's a fact in sports. From a business operations perspective, our game day program creates an experience around the 60 minutes of hockey to give fans an entertaining experience from the time they walk into the building until the time they leave. That experience, from winning prizes in the stands, interviews with the hockey team, the music between plays, has to always be a winning experience."

The Kingston Frontenacs are on the road this weekend with games in Plymouth, Saginaw, and Windsor before returning home to the K-Rock Centre to face division rival Oshawa Generals on Friday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. The Generals are currently in 2nd place in the division, three points ahead of Kingston in 3rd place. Both teams have 12 wins and 10 losses but Oshawa has played three more games than Kingston with 1 overtime loss and 2 shootout losses. The game will feature the national anthem performed by the Winter Wonderettes, a unique, four-part harmony group who are starring in the Christmas sequel to the Marvelous Wonderettes at the Grand Theatre from December 5 to 16, 2012.Tickets are available at the K-Rock Centre Box Office.
