October 29, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) Kalamazoo Wings
Game RewindFriday, October 26th @ Evansville IceMen (Kalamazoo 3-Evansville 2)
Evansville, IN- Led by a 2-for-4 display on the power-play, the Kalamazoo Wings (4-1-0-0) powered their way past the Evansville IceMen (0-4-0-1) with a 3-2 victory Friday night from the Ford Center.
Sparked by a two-man advantage, Kalamazoo jumped ahead with a Sam Ftorek (1st) slap shot at the 8:29 mark of the first period. Finding open space atop the left circle, Ftorek power-play marker was setup from Brett Lysak and Eric Kattelus.
Pelting Joe Cannata (27 saves) with shots early in the second period, Evansville tied the game at 1-1 2:17 into the stanza with a rebound tally from Dan Gendur. While Cannata made the two initial saves, Gendur knocked in a rebound to the right of the netminder for his second goal of the campaign.
Outshot in the game 29-22, the K-Wings were outshot 13-2 in the second period.
Later in the period, Ftorek (2nd) regained the lead for Kalamazoo rifling a power-play goal past Paul Karpowich (19 saves) for the defensemen's second of the game and team-leading fifth point of the season.
Bouncing back with a man-advantage goal of their own, the IceMen knotted the game at 2-2, when Dale Mahovsky (1st) redirected a Matt Gens slap shot with 12:32 remaining in the middle frame.
Utilizing a screen from Aaron Clarke, Joe Charlebois put the K-Wings ahead for good with 8:30 remaining in regulation registering his first goal of the season with a blue line slap shot for the eventual game-winner.
Saturday, October 27th Vs Evansville IceMen (Kalamazoo 4-Evansville 1)
Kalamazoo, MI- There were no tricks but plenty of treats for the Kalamazoo Wings (5-1-0-0) during the 9th annual Orange Ice Game, as the K-Wings extended their win streak to four games with a 4-1 decision over the Evansville Icemen (0-5-1-0).
Finding offense from the opening face-off, the K-Wings were able to score the first goal of the contest for their fourth consecutive game. Getting the scoring underway at the 5:25 mark was Aaron Clarke, who poked a puck free from the Evansville defense, and was able to beat Rob Madore for his first goal of the season.
Following that up just five minutes later was Eric Kattelus. With the K-Wings working on a power play mid way through the first, Kattelus took a quick wrist shot that beat Madore through the five-hole, for his second tally of the season. The goal gave Kalamazoo a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room after one.
Again taking advantage of a K-Wings power play was Kattelus, who poured home his second goal of the game and third of the season, when he shot the puck from the right side and found the back of the net to lead his team to a three goal advantage.
Evansville tried to claw their way back into the contest, as Patrick Kennedy was able to break through the solid wall that was K-Wing goalie, Joel Martin. The goal for Kennedy was his second of the season, and came in four-on-four action. Martin, who finished the contest with 28 saves, allowed his first goal at home (112:38) in two appearances and his first goal surrendered since October 13th against Toledo (119:40).
Putting the finishing touches on Kalamazoo's victory was, Nick Sirota, who notched his first goal of the season on an empty-netter.
