RUNDOWN/LOWDOWN: The Evansville IceMen, proud ECHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the Springfield Falcons and Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League, have completed their initial month as members of the league in its 25th Anniversary Season. Under the direction of third year General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm, the IceMen will commence the new month of November this week with two games on the docket. Through the first month of the campaign, the IceMen have compiled a record of 7(0-6-1) for one point in the Eastern Conference North Division standings. Evansville will launch its next week's schedule occupying fifth place in its division with Kalamazoo on top at 6(5-1-0)10-points; Cincinnati 5(3-0-2) 8-points; Toledo 6(4-2-0) 8-points; Fort Wayne 6(3-2-1) 7-points. This week, the IceMen list a lone home date on their schedule at the Ford Center. Friday night, they will clash with the first time-ever the Wheeling Nailers on "Mascot Night." Saturday night, the IceMen sojourn to Toledo for their first-ever affair with the Walleye.
GET YOUR GAME FACE ON!: Playing 8 of their first 11-games on home ice this season, the IceMen will host Wheeling this Friday night on "Mascot Night" at the Ford Center. Next week, the IceMen will present their Second Annual Education Day game, Tuesday, November 6th when they open a two-game homestand series against Eastern Conference South Division rival Greenville. The Education Day game will have a special starting time of 9:45 AM.
"ICEMEN LIVE PRESENTED BY COORS LIGHT": The IceMen ever-popular weekly Monday night radio show is on the air everywhere for a third consecutive year right in your listening ear. This week, show host, Terry Ficorelli's special guests will be right wing 17-Dan Gendur and right wing 26-Tyler Shelast. It's "IceMen Live Presented by Coors Light," Monday night from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm live from Show-Me's East and on the IceMen radio flagship home of "Magic 98.5 FM WEOA and 1400 AM WEOA as well as world-wide on 1400amweoa.com and magic985fm.com.
WRAP/RECAP: Confronting a rigorous regimen of 4-games in 5-days for the first time this season in this past week, the IceMen sustained 4-consecutive defeats with two of those incurred against Gwinnett and the other two coming at the hands of always-redoubtable Kalamazoo. The past Wednesday night, the IceMen were limited to 17-SOG in a 3-0 Gladiators triumph. The IceMen were then swept in a two-game home-and-home series by intra-divisional rival Kalamazoo as the three-time reigning North Division titlists prevailed Friday night at the Ford Center, 3-2 and Saturday night on home ice, 4-1. Evansville capped the rugged week by absorbing a 5-2 home ice setback Sunday to Gwinnett, one more time.
OCTOBER ODOMETER: The IceMen completed their first-ever month in the ECHL with a less-than-exemplary record of 7(0-6-1). They are presently in the midst of a 4-game losing streak with all 4-defeats suffered in the past week. The IceMen are the last and lone winless team remaining in the 23-teams' ECHL. Three of the IceMen early season setbacks have been sustained by a minuscule 1-goal differential.
THE BLUE FUNK FIVE: By dropping a trio of home appearances the past week, the IceMen have yet to record a triumph at home at 5(0-5-0), being outscored on home ice, 24-9. Last season at home the IceMen carded a supreme record of 33(21-11-1).
FOREIGN ICE AFFAIRS: Thus far this season, the IceMen have played 5 of their first 7-games at home. In the two road of which they have played, the IceMen are winless in both starts. However, they have attained their only point in the standings abroad, the IceMen road atlas marks a record of 2(0-1-1).
DIVISION DECISION: With all 72 of their regular season games to be played within their own Eastern Conference, the IceMen breakdown thus far; North Division 4(0-3-1); Atlantic Division 1(0-1-0); South Division: 2(0-2-0). Evansville will not play outside their own conference until playoffs-time.
ICEMEN OCTOBER HONOR ROLL: The IceMen have nominated left wing Patrick Kennedy for ECHL Player of the Week. In 4-games, he collected 2-points on 1-goal, 1-assist with 5-SOG. His +3 rating leads the club in that particular department. Rob Madore is the IceMen nomination for both ECHL Goaltender of the Week and of the Month. This week, in 3-outings, Madore posted a3.33 GAA and .881 SPCT. For the month, the U. of Vermont product posted a 3.41 GAA in five games with a SPCT of .884. The IceMen have also nominated center Brett Sonne for ECHL Player of the Month. He is the IceMen leading scorer with 7(3-4-7). The former St. Louis Blues draft choice has connected on 2-PPG and 22-SOG. Sonne began the season with 3-consecutive 2-points performances on 1-goal and 1-assist. Right wing Trent Vogelhuber is the IceMen nomination for ECHL Rookie of the Month. Vogelhuber registered his first pro points in back-to-back weekend outings, notching an assists in each game. his +2 rating ranks club runner-up.
SPECIAL TEAMS TONIC: The IceMen power play is ranked 17th in the ECHL, operating at 12.5% proficiency; 5-40. They are 1 for the last 11 and 2 for the last 24. Meanwhile, the penalty-killing unit is ranked 23rd and last, operating at 69.7% as the opposition is percolating at 10-33. The IceMen have allotted 2-SHGA thus far this season.
MILESTONES MARKERS: Todd Robinson (896) is just 4-assists away from pro career. First-year defenseman Austin Madaisky assigned to the IceMen the past weekend by NHL parent club Columbus registered his first-ever pro point Sunday at home against Gwinnett on a power play goal. Trent Vogelhuber also achieved his first-ever pro point, collecting a pair of helpers over the past 2-games for the IceMen.
FEW FUN FAST FACTS FROM "FIC" The IceMen still have not scored the game's FG through the IceMen first 7-games thus far. Evansville has been outscored in the first period, 10-2 overall and 8-1 on home ice. The IceMen have scored 7 of their 13-goals in the second period while being outscored in the third period 11-5. Todd Robinson has reached 1,230 points in his illustrious pro career, accomplishing the amazing feat in only 878-career games.
