Ralston, Neb. - Brian Ward netted two goals and Johan Mattsson registered a 17-save shutout as the Tri-City Storm blanked the Omaha Lancers 3-0 Friday evening in front of a sold-out crowd of 3,643 fans at the Ralston Arena. Following the setback, the Lancers dipped to 2-7 on the season.

Tri-City opened the scoring less than five minutes into the contest when Trevor Moore settled a bouncing puck in the slot before driving in his fourth goal of the season and the first goal ever scored at the Ralston Arena. Tim Bonner and Nolan Gluchowski assisted on the even strength strike notched 4:47 into the first period. The Storm doubled their lead just under 10 minutes later when, in the midst of a Lancers power play, Ward broke free shorthanded on the left wing before lifting in his fourth goal of the year. The unassisted shorthanded tally came 14:30 into the opening period of play and marked the first shorthanded goal scored by Tri-City this season.

The Storm extended their lead to a 3-0 advantage less than four minutes into the second period when Ward pounced on a rebound at the left side of the goal before sliding in his second goal of the game and fifth of the season. Joel L'Esperance and Eli May assisted on the five-on-five goal scored 3:44 into the middle stanza.

Four power plays in the third period provided plenty of scoring opportunities for the Lancers but Omaha was unable to convert any of them as Johan Mattsson backstopped the Storm to the 3-0 victory. Mattsson earned the win after 17 saves on 17 Lancers shots and in doing so, improved to 3-2 on the year. Meanwhile, Alex Lyon suffered the setback in goal despite 17 saves on 20 Storm shots.

The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when the team travels to Des Moines for a 7:05 PM showdown with the Buccaneers.
