Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo Black Hawks goaltender Eamon McAdam made 33 saves Friday for his second shutout of the season during a 3-0 win versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks while visiting L.C. Walker Arena in western Michigan.

It was the first of five consecutive road games for the Hawks, who had played their last six at home. With three shutouts in the first eight games of the season, Waterloo has already surpassed their total from 2011/12.

Zach Stepan and Jake Horton kept a puck alive leading to the first Waterloo goal. Poking it away from Lumberjacks netminder Kevin Lindskoug at 8:39, it was knocked into the net during the ensuing scramble in the crease; Stepan was credited with the score. The Hawks added to the margin one second after a power play had expired. With 2:35 remaining before intermission, Ian McCoshen's shot from the right point appeared to find the net, and Kyle Schmidt lifted the puck under the crossbar when it bounced his way to make sure Waterloo would take a 2-0 edge into the second.

The Hawks successfully navigated through three Muskegon power plays in the middle period, but could not get much brewing themselves on their lone advantage late in the frame. Neither team was able to hit the twine with any of their ten respective shots on goal.

Vince Hinostroza gave the Black Hawks more breathing room at 4:12 of the third period. While shorthanded, Stepan snagged a puck behind the net and feathered a pass to Hinostroza alone at the right hash mark. The resulting low shot slithered past Lindskoug. McAdam made a dozen saves in the third to preserve the shutout, notably turning away Tyler Heinonen from the top of the crease during a Muskegon power play, then kicking aside a shorthanded breakaway opportunity by Mason Jobst in the closing minutes.

The Black Hawks' busy weekend continues Saturday when they visit Team USA in Ann Arbor. Waterloo topped the National Team Development Program U-17's last Sunday at Young Arena. Game time Saturday is 6PM Central Time.
