Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Stampeders conclude the regular-season portion of their home schedule on Friday as they face the BC Lions. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is 7 p.m.

The Stamps (10-6) were 34-32 winners over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week at home, a result that allowed Calgary to clinch second place in the West Division and earn the right to host the West semifinal on Nov. 11. The Lions (12-4) locked up first place in the West last week with a 39-19 home-field victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Stamps have won four straight home games and are 6-2 at McMahon Stadium this season. The Lions are 5-3 away from BC Place. Calgary is looking for its first win of the season against BC after dropping a 34-8 decision to the Lions on July 28 at McMahon and a 27-22 final on Oct. 6 in Vancouver.

In addition to being a possible West Division final preview, Friday's game is notable in that several Stampeders players continue to chase major milestones. Running back Jon Cornish, for instance, leads the CFL with 1,302 rushing yards and is attempting to become the first Canadian to win the CFL rushing title since Ottawa's Orville Lee in 1988. Cornish is also within reach of Normie Kwong's record of most rushing yards in a season by a Canadian (1,437).

Meanwhile, slotback Nik Lewis is six catches away from the first 100-reception season of his distinguished career while quarterback Kevin Glenn needs 90 passing yards to reach 4,000 for the season. Calgary head coach and general manager John Hufnagel has also indicated that he intends to get Drew Tate into some game action for the first time since the quarterback suffered an injury to his non-throwing shoulder in Week 2.

The Stamps will wrap up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 2 at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium before returning to McMahon for the West Division semifinal on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Game-day experience

Friday is also Fan Appreciation Day, presented by Ruffles Potato Chips. This annual event culminates with the ever-popular Jerseys Off Our Backs event, which is presented by Safeway. Fans randomly selected from both season-ticket holders and single-game purchasers will get the chance to come onto the field after the game, meet with a designated Stamps player and get a game jersey signed. The players will also be tossing signed souvenir footballs into the crowd during pre-game introductions. Prior to the contest, Country 105 will be supplying the music for the Fun Zone, which runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and is located in the southeast parking lot across from the ticket office. Stamps and Dinos players will be on hand to sign autographs. At the conclusion of the game, 10,000 fans will receive a bag of Ruffles Potato Chips as they exit.
