State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - Last year, the State College Spikes received nationwide attention by becoming the first team to invite cats to the ballpark. Monday night, the cat scratches back as fans can bring their feline friends to the ballpark for Purr in the Park II during the 7:05 p.m. game against the Auburn Doubledays (Washington Nationals) at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Gates open at 6 p.m. for the game (5:45 for season ticket holders), and fans and their cats may enter the park through Gate G. All owners will be required to sign a waiver. Owners can bring their cats either in a carrier or on a leash, and can prowl about the concourse throughout and sit in $1 Outfield Bleachers seats in right field. Saucers of warm milk will also be provide on the concourse to refresh cats throughout the game.
The 2011 edition of Purr in the Park Night was nominated as one of the top promotions in all of Minor Leauge Baseball, and 2012's version will be even more "cat-tastic" with a whole "kitten-kaboodle" of on-field activities and tributes to fete our feline friends, including:
- A tribute to the greatest cats in baseball history, such as Andres "The Big Cat" Galarraga, Jim "Kitty" Kaat, Catfish Hunter, Mudcat Grant and more
- The Nittany Bank Nookie Monster performing some of the greatest cat hits of all time, like "Memory" from the musical Cats, "Cat Scratch Fever," a selection from Cat Stevens, and much more
- The Cove Pizzeria Lasagna Pizza Meow in honor of the king cat of the comics, Garfield
- A chance to highlight our talented feline friends in attendance at the game
- Video presentations featuring The Aristocats, Keyboard Cat and many more of the famous cats throughout history.
Plus, fans will enjoy $1 hot dogs, $1 small sodas and $1 peanuts along with their $1 Outfield Bleacher seats on Buck Night, presented by 95.3 FM 3WZ. And just in case plans go awry, it's also Bad Idea Night at the ballpark, featuring a look at some of the worst ideas in recent memory.
The Spikes will be home through Wednesday, with a T-Shirt Tuesday giveaway to the first 500 fans through the gates presented by P.J. Harrigan's on tap, as well as Half-Price Wednesday presented by BIG Froggy 101. Baseball legend Denny McLain, the last 30-game winner in the Major Leagues, will also be on hand to sign autographs for Wednesday night's game. Both games will start at 7:05 p.m. with Auburn providing the opposition.
Great seats are available for all seven games remaining on the Spikes' 2012 home slate, and can be purchased by visiting the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office, by calling toll-free (877) 99-SPIKES, or by visiting StateCollegeSpikes.com to buy and print tickets from your home computer.
