
Sea Dogs Win Streak Snapped with 5-1 Loss

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (65-67) six game win streak was snapped with a 5-1 loss to the Binghamton Mets (64-69) Saturday night at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 7,084. The Sea Dogs have remained red hot since the All-Star break with a 29-13 record and continue to be in contention for a playoff spot.
The Sea Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker extended his hit streak to nine games with a single and scored on a Bryce Brentz single to right field picking-up his team leading 73rd RBI.
The Mets offense battled against Portland starter Drake Britton (4-6) forcing him out of the game after 3.2 innings. Britton surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits. He struggled with his command walking three batters but notched six strikeouts.
Allan Dykstra delivered a RBI double scoring Wilmer Flores to tie the game at one. Dykstra came home to score the go-ahead run when shortstop Xander Bogaerts booted a ground ball off the bat of Jefry Marte. Binghamton loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Francisco Pena scored on a Reese Havens ground out extending the lead to 3-1.
Will Latimer relieved Britton in the fourth and surrendered a two run homer to Havens in the sixth inning. His tenth home run of the year gave the Mets a 5-1 lead.
Meanwhile Binghamton starter Darin Gorski (9-7) continued his domination of the Sea Dogs improving to 3-0 against Portland. Gorski held the Sea Dogs to one run on five hits through 7.2 innings and matched a season high with nine strikeouts.
Brentz was 3-for-4 with a RBI and is hitting .431 in the month of August. Bogaerts doubled in the ninth inning and has hit safely in 13 of 15 Double-A games.
The homestand will conclude with a 1:00 PM game on Sunday. Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Kehrt (7-3, 4.07) will get the start for the Sea Dogs against Binghamton righty Greg Peavey (7-8, 5.12).
